TEACHER GLORIA OMOLOLU INSTITUTE MAKING STRIDES
The children of Grades 3 to 6 brought smiles to the residents of the Just Tender Care home in October when they visited in celebration of Care of the Elderly month in Anguilla. The children had prepared baskets of fruit which they presented to the staff, and they then delighted the residents of the home with a lively performance of their favourite devotional songs. The teachers of the Omololu Institute welcomed the opportunity to teach the children the importance of caring for the elderly in their community.
Other initiatives at Teacher Gloria Omololu Institute include the introduction of twice weekly Spanish classes for children in Grades Kindergarten to Grade 6, as well as the establishment of a chess club. Children are able to attend ‘chess clinic’ on Sundays if they wish and there are chess sessions for all grades during the week, in addition to a popular twice weekly games club where pupils can play with the school’s growing collection of board games such as Scrabble and Monopoly. The school library is now also open for the children to borrow books and they are encouraged to give their choices a star rating so that a ‘top of the pops’ chart can be developed for all students to refer to. Another exciting development is the budding relationship between Teacher Gloria Omololu Institute and a primary school in Devon in the UK. Teachers in both schools have been helping the children to prepare a list of questions for each other about the similarities and differences in their education and lives and a series of Skype sessions are planned before the Christmas break.
One of the key cornerstone values of TGOI has always been to offer a quality, holistic education that is accessible to a wide segment of families in Anguilla, and the Board of Directors is very pleased to announce that it has released further scholarship funds to new prospective students for Terms 2 and 3 of this Academic School Year 2012/13. Families who are interested in applying for a scholarship are asked to apply immediately. For further information please contact the school on 497 5430 or email [email protected] Staff, parents and students alike are all delighted with the renewed energy and focus these activities are bringing to the school.
